Jacob Maurer of Reading is believed to be the son of Jacob Maurer of Upper Hanover Twp. Montgomery Co. for the following 4 reasons:
1) Jacob Maurer died in 1822 in Reading. His estate file mentions “6 bonds in pledge with Frederick Maurer” - Frederick Maurer is a known son of Jacob Maurer of Montgomery Co. [see Berks Co. Deed Book B1, pg 537: 22 Mar 1773 - Agreement between Frederick Maurer & Esther his wife of Maiden Creek Twp. Berks Co. PA & his mother Sophia Maurer] Jacob & Frederick assumed to be brothers.
2) Jacob Maurer of Reading obtained a land grant for 200 acres in Turbut Twp. Northumberland Co. PA adjacent to Paul Rothermel’s 300 acres. Both of these tracts were sold in 1840 by Jacob Goodman of Reading, PA and acting Executor of Jacob Maurer of Reading. [See Northumberland Co. PA deed book BB, pg 181 cited below.] The land was owned as tenants in common. Jacob Maurer & Paul Rothermel are brothers-in-law.
3) Several of the children of Jacob Maurer of Montgomery Co., as well as his widow Sophia, migrated to Berks Co. as follows:
- Margaret & Sophia, both spouses of Paul Rothermel
- Andrew married to Barbara Steinman
- Elizabeth married to Isaac Barto
- Anna Mary died single in 1820
- Catharine married to Johannes Steinman
- Frederick married to Esther LeVan
4) Jacob Maurer married Susannah LeVan, Frederick Maurer married her sister Esther LeVan. Both families owned adjacent land tracts in Maidencreek Twp. Berks Co. before both moved to Reading. [See Berks Co. Deed Book B1, pg 537: 2 Mar 1773 - Agreement between Frederick Maurer & Esther his wife of Maiden Creek Twp. Berks Co. PA & his mother Sophia Maurer]
