Martin Ressler, 65, Retired Farmer, Dies
Martin E. Ressler, 65, a retired farmer and Mennonite Church musician and historian, died Saturday evening at Lancaster General Hospital after a one-month illness.
He resided at 340 Green Lane, Quarryville, and was the husband of Alma Martin Ressler.
Ressler, who operated a dairy farm, was a member of Oakwood Mennonite Church in Maryland. He was active in the church's chorus and was a music teacher for 40 years. He had also been a song leader and treasurer of the trustee board and taught a men's Bible class.
Ressler, a self-educated musician, was said to have owned one of the largest private music collections from the Mennonite Church in North America.
From 1967 until 1979 Ressler edited Music Messenger, a bimonthly magazine for congregational song leaders and musicians. He was director and secretary of the Christian Herald Men's Chorus.
Ressler also served as secretary of the Eastern Mennonite Associated Libraries as well as secretary of the Lancaster Mennonite Conference Historical Society.
He served on the society's building and properties committee and had been archives committee chairman of the Hans Herr House administration board. He also served on the Mennonite Historical Associates field trip committee.
Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late D. Grube and Anna Zimmerman Ressler.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons: Cletus, Leola; Sylvan, Bart; and Merle, New Holland; three daughters: Marian, wife of Keith Yoder, Leola; Marilyn, wife of Leonard Kreider, Elizabethtown; and Christine, wife of William Rohlf, Lancaster.
Also surviving are six grandchildren; four brothers: Elmer K., Kennett Square; Harold L., East Earl; Melvin J., Akron; and Elvin J., Ephrata; and a sister, Anna Mae, Rothsville.

Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late D. Grube and Anna Zimmemam Ressler.
He was the husband of Alma Martin Ressler.
Ressler a retired farmer, was a member of the Oakwood Mennonite Church in Conowenga, Md. He was active in the chorus and was music teacher in the church for 40 years.
Ressler was also director of the Herald Men's Chorus, secretary of the Eastern Mennonite Association Library and secretary of the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons: Cletus, of Leola, Sylvan, of Bart, Pa., and Merle, of New Holland.
Also, three daughters: Marian, wife of Keith Yoder of Leola, Marilyn, wife of Leonard Kreider of Elizabethtown and Christine, wife of William Rohlf of Lancaster.
Additional survivors include: six grandchildren and four brothers: Elmer K. Ressler of Kenneth Square, Harold L. Ressler of East Earl, Melvin J. Ressler of Akron, and Elvin J. Ressler of Ephrata.
Also one sister, Anna Mae Ressler of Rothville, Pa.

Martin Ressler, 65, Quarryville, died Oct. 10 of leukemia. Funeral services were held at Weaverland Mennonite Church, East Earl, on Oct. 13. He was a retired farmer and church musician and historian. A music teacher for 40 years, he was a self-taught musician and was said to have owned one of the largest private music collections from the Mennonite Church in North America.
